Want more? System shock 2, deus ex and so on and so forth. ss2 is a great game, but it didnt have that impact half life 2 had. no game after it had that. maybe some games got close, but half life was way b4 its time, a truly great game, that was really next gen. we dont see that many good games today.
As influential as Half-Life 2 is, modern games still fall into the bad habits Valve actively sought to get rid of. 10 years on, we still have far too many characters shouting exposition down
Absolutely it is, Half-Life 2 redefined my entire worldview of video games when I was 12 and when I went to play the first one after I found it to be very different but very familiar to the second all the same Itβs a tonne of fun, although if you want a better story game youβll want to play 2 first, the first one had limitations such as having to use the same model and voice for most NPCs And the format worked, almost. Half-Life 2: Episode One suffered a delay, but released just two years after Half-Life 2βs 2004 debut. βThis game is very good. But Half-Life is better No. You see while Half-Life 2 undeniably laid the foundations for a staggering proportion of the then-future of game design - genre be damned β it is no mere historically lauded precursor. Half Life 2 was not made for VR and it shows IMO. The pace of the game felt all wrong when I played it trough Garry's Mod and it would require all sorts of updates or rework for it to look and feel good in VR. Compare it to Half Life Alyx and it's night and day in difference. However I suggest you try it, it is interesting to experience it in VR :)It looks really good and is a nice, condensed slice of what I love about the Half-Life 2 games. Some combat, some puzzle solving, some weird lore about eating alien leeches (gross) , and aEpisode 2 also follows immediately after Ep1 and is the final journey leading to the hindering & near takedown of the Combine. Trying to keep it at vague as possible not to ruin gameplay. The reason Half-Life 3 is in such demand is the continuation of the cliffhanger of the century. This, and that the Half-Life & Portal storylines finally
MMod is good for a vanilla like experience. It changes enough that it's noticeable but not enough that it's an entirely different game. Cinematic Mod is another one but it changes a lot and changes the entire feel of the game, for the worse in my opinion. HL2 MMod is also a good graphics improvement mod. If you don't like the changes it does toThe Half-Life 2: VR Mod entered its beta phase a couple of weeks ago and is already getting good reviews, even though there is still much work to be done. Kotaku says it's "almost too good to be If you wanted to play it on high, you would have wanted either an Nvidia FX 5900 series / ATI Radeon 9600 series or higher. Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 definitely pushed people to upgrade their PCs at the time. ATI/Radeon was also kicking Nvidia's ass at this time in regards to performance as well.
Half Life 2 reminded me a lot of the Matrix series - the first one was just so gosh darn good, they had to grasp at straws for the sequel. The first three chapters almost feel like a fanfic made by a kid who really liked the Matrix, to a point where he thought "HAY, THE MATRIX WOULD BE COOL MIXED WITH HALF LIFE."
