Go to the meadhall in one of the town in the faction you want to join. Ask the Host about jobs. If the host say there is a lord looking for mercenaries. Go and look for him. Ask him for task until it appears ( I have promised king ( BLAH ) that i would hire a mercenaries for the upcoming campaign ) Say Aye i'll join.

I was a mercenary for the Cossack-Hetmanate, but when the contract expired, I did not renew it. Now, I want to join King Carl of Sweden, but I do not have an option to do so. My relation with him is 33 and my relation with Sweden is 28. It has been weeks since my contract expired. I have been doing plenty of jobs for King Carl and other Swedish lords to better relations. If affiliated: first you must become a vassal. There are two ways to start your own kingdom: Capture a town or castle and request it be given to you. If your liege rejects you may rebel. If you are a woman and married, talk to your husband. He will support you as a monarch as long as you've got any town or castle as a fief.

A faction needs to be at war before it starts looking for mercenary help. Hiring mercenaries in peacetime is a waste of money. Once you are a merc with a faction, though, I'm almost certain you can renew your contract as long as you please regardless of war.

Once you reach clan tier one you can go talk to any noble of any of the kingdoms and ask to become a mercenary of that kingdom and they will quote you a rate that they will pay per influence, I recommend shopping around until you find one at least 20 or above.
